LONE STARZ RISING Young Talent Contest

Ten young musicians and bands have been announced as the finalists in Texas Music Project’s Lone Starz Rising Talent Contest. The ten finalists will compete live on May 11th, Mothers Day, at the Taste Addison Bowl Stage where the grand prize winner will be determined. The competition will start at 1:00 and each finalist will have the opportunity to perform 2 original songs.

The ten finalists were chosen from hundreds of entries which were submitted online at www.ourstage.com. Solo performers and bands with members under 20 years of age were eligible to enter to win a prize package from the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. In addition the winner’s school will receive a $1,000 grant for music education from Texas Music Project. The grand prize package includes a gig at Kaboom Town, Addison’s Independence Day festival with attendance of more then 30,000, a professional recording session on board the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, an Apple iPod shuffle for each band member, a Crate profiler Model 5, an AMPEG – BA 112 Bass Combo, a Godin Guitar, 1,000 custom CDs courtesy of disc makers, a Propellerhead’s Reason and a Maxell Prize Package for each band member.

“Lone Starz Rising gives students a chance to show off their talent while building awareness for the importance of music education in Texas public schools,” Michael Clay, co-founder and executive director of the Texas Music Project, said. “Last year’s winner, Emily Elbert, went on to receive a full scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music and has a successful CD called Bright Side with 11 original songs. Landon Austin, our 2006 winner, was recently one of three finalists in the Dorito’s Crash the Superbowl contest, and was flown to L.A. to record his original song, Waiting.”

Sponsors for this year’s Lone Starz Rising Talent Contest, benefiting Texas Music Project, are the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, Guitar Center, Taste Addison, Lone Star Attitude and OurStage.com.
