D-Hill-400x400Dean Hill is an award-winning band director in the Dallas Independent School District over the past 30+ years. He has received the honor as “Teacher of the Year” at the elementary, junior and senior high school levels. As a music educator, he developed one of the most diverse and complete music programs in the district. His bands consistently receive superior ratings in concert, jazz and marching festivals. Under his leadership, his students have experienced the exhilaration of performing at bowl games and festivals all across the United States. His students regularly perform well at audition-level for All-City, All-Region Jazz, All Region Solo and Ensemble, and State Solo and Ensemble music competitions. Dean’s major goal is to have all his students completely prepared to compete for scholarships at any college or university of the student’s choice. For the past 15 years at Townview, over 95% of his students who have participated in the band and sought music scholarships have become scholarship recipients. The Dallas Metroplex National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM – Texas Branch) recently inducted Dean into the Negro Musicians Hall of Fame. He was also a 2010 honoree of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. at their 6th Annual Heritage Banquet.
