Texas Music Project (TMP) is a statewide music charity celebrating our 20-year anniversary !!!
Follow the roads of Texas and they will lead you to dance halls, juke joints, honky tonks and festival stages to experience the next generation of Texas music legends.
Only in Texas can you hear an a magical blend of music that has become the trademark sound of Texas. It’s a ‘gumbo’ of genres that has produced more Hall of Fame and Grammy winners than any place on the planet.
In 2003, Texas was next to last in all the states supporting music education in schools. Considering our great tradition of music, TMP saw a need to address this problem and make a change for the better.
We are proud of the past 20 years of raising funds, donating instruments, offering instructions, mentorship, inter-active seminars and live performances for disadvantaged and at risk school age youth. All studies show the positive benefits of music in a childs life and we believe education and entertainment go hand in hand.
We tip our hats to show our appreciation for the love and gratitude we recieved from the Texas music community . – that made it real!
We especially would like to thank our lucky “Lone Star” that our first Honorary Chairman was legnedary musician and sage, Willie Nelson, the Dala Lama of Texas music.
It would not have happened without his blessing.
TMP created four compilation CD’s with over 80 Texas artist called “Dont Mess with Texas Music”. Legendary musicians such as Willie Nelson, George Strait, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, T Bone Burnett, Beyonce, Delbert McClinton and many many more all offer gratis use of their CD’s to support our mission.
The funds we raised from CD sells help to financially support our efforts. Through a partnership with Texas Commission on the Arts, schools applied for grants for the funds we raised selling the CD’s to companies and organizations like Starbucks, Texas Film Commission, Texas Tourisim, record stores, public and private business.
It’s been a huge success! TMP was signed into a House Bill by Governor Perry and the project received the “Trail Blazer” award from the Texas Commission of the Arts. There is a “rumor goin’ round” that it’s Volume 1 is the best selling CD in Texas!
In 2012, we started our Music therapy program for kids of fallen soldiers and kids in hospitals . TMP developed a partnership with American Airlines, Neiman Marcus, YUM Brands, The City fo Dallas and others for children and families of fallen soldier and various childrens hospitals
( Texas Childrens, Childrens Medical and Cooks Childrens).
Our program highlights the vital role music plays in emotional healing in the lives of children by giving them an outlet for expression and means to communicate with their peers in and outside of the hospitals.
