An Eagle Scout’s Gift to Cook Children’s Hospital for Music Therapy Week

Drew Lagner from The Jamboree Troop 70

As we celebrate National Music Therapy Week, we’re reminded that healing doesn’t always come in the form of medicine—it often begins with a melody. Across Texas, music therapy is making a powerful impact in children’s hospitals, helping young patients cope with pain, reduce anxiety, and find joy in the midst of their healing journeys.

One young leader who truly embodies the spirit of healing through music is Drew Lagner and Family an Eagle Scout from Highland Park. For his Eagle Scout service project, Drew chose to support the Music Therapy Program at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, delivering over $2,500 worth of musical instruments—enough to fill three carts with the power of possibility.

Drew’s project was more than a donation; it was a heartfelt mission to bring comfort and creativity to young patients through music. He partnered with the Texas Music Project to ensure that every instrument would be used by board-certified music therapists to help children process their experiences, express themselves, and experience the transformative benefits of music therapy.

Drew is a proud member of Jamboree Troop 70, a storied Scout troop known for cultivating leadership and service in young men since its founding in 1929. Based in Highland Park, Texas, Troop 70 has a long-standing legacy of shaping future leaders through a commitment to character, citizenship, and community. From campfires to community service, these young men are learning that making a difference is the greatest badge of all.

During a special visit to Cook Children’s, Drew and his family toured the hospital with Megan and Sonny, two passionate members of the music therapy team. They shared stories about how music is helping children find strength in their toughest moments—and how staff themselves are also in need of healing. Inspired by this visit, we hope to return soon to film testimonials from Sonny and others to shine a brighter light on the work they do every day.

Music therapy is more than a program. It’s a lifeline. And as we recognize Music Therapy Week, we invite you to join us in supporting this mission. Every dollar helps provide instruments, therapeutic support, and moments of joy to children across Texas who are fighting for their health with music by their side.

Help us keep the music playing. Donate today and be a part of the healing.
