Flood Survivor, Fox Patriot Award Recipient, and Song of Hope Ambassador Continues Inspiring Others with New Single “Miracle”
As communities across Texas prepare to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the devastating Central Texas floods of July 4, 2025, Texas Music Project is proud to celebrate the remarkable journey of Junior Ambassador Skyler Derrington, a young artist whose courage, faith, and music have inspired millions.
This Fourth of July marks a day of remembrance and gratitude for Skyler and countless families affected by the catastrophic flooding that swept through the Texas Hill Country.
At the time of the flood, Skyler was attending Camp Mystic, the historic all-girls summer camp located along the Guadalupe River. Her cabin, Bug House, was situated in the Flats, the area closest to the river and among the hardest hit during the disaster.
What began as a story of survival soon became a story of resilience.
Skyler emerged not only as a survivor but as an overcomer.
In the months that followed, her story captured the attention of the nation. She was invited to New York City to share her experience and perform on Fox & Friends, where she received a surprise visit from GRAMMY Award-winning artist Lauren Daigle. The emotional moment resonated with viewers across America and highlighted the healing power of faith, community, and music.
Later that year, Skyler became the youngest recipient ever honored with a Fox Patriot Award in the newly established Faith category. The event helped raise more than $7 million to support Central Texas flood recovery efforts and recognized her ability to inspire others through hope and perseverance.
“Skyler reminds us that even in life’s darkest moments, hope can still be found,” said Michael Clay, Founder and Executive Director of Texas Music Project. “Her courage, humility, and unwavering faith have touched people far beyond Texas. She represents everything Song of Hope was created to achieve.”
Today, Skyler continues to use her voice to help others heal.
As a Junior Ambassador for Texas Music Project’s Song of Hope initiative, Skyler released her latest single, “Miracle,” inspired by her personal journey and the resilience of those affected by the flood, the song serves as a powerful reminder that hope can emerge even from unimaginable circumstances.
Skyler is scheduled to perform “Miracle” again on July 4, 2026 at Two Step Farm, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Central Texas flood. The performance serves as a reflection of her journey from survivor to advocate, using music to inspire hope and resilience in others.
Her growing influence continues to extend beyond the stage.
Skyler recently performed the National Anthem and Amazing Grace during Houston’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Service on March 30, 2026. She also appeared at the Armed Forces Ball in Houston, where she performed both “Miracle” and “Hallelujah.” For the event, she was escorted by Scott Ruskan, the United States Coast Guard rescue swimmer credited with helping save 165 lives during the July 4, 2025 flood response efforts.
In another meaningful tribute to the flood recovery story, Skyler will appear on the upcoming album and music video for “Gates of the Guadalupe,” written by Pamela Kiefer. She will also be featured on the album cover and perform a portion of the song as part of the project honoring the communities affected by the disaster.
Even more her story will reach an even larger audience through the upcoming documentary River of Angels, which chronicles the lives forever changed by the Central Texas floods. The film features Skyler’s story and music and is scheduled for release on June 2026.
For Texas Music Project, Skyler’s journey embodies the mission behind Song of Hope.
What began as a young girl finding strength through music has become a movement of healing, inspiration, and community. Through her voice, she continues to remind others that hope is stronger than fear, faith is stronger than tragedy, and miracles are often found in the people who choose to rise after life’s greatest challenges.
As Texans gather this Independence Day to celebrate freedom, family, and community, Texas Music Project invites everyone to reflect on the resilience of those who endured the floods and the extraordinary young people like Skyler Derrington who continue to inspire us all.
