Celebrating Music Heals Day – A Texas Tribute to the Power of Music

Texas Music Project Celebrates “Music Heals Day” Recognized by the Texas House of Representatives

Honoring the Healing Power of Music and Its Impact Across Texas Hospitals

Dallas, Texas — October 12, 2025 — The Texas House of Representatives has officially recognized October 12th as Music Heals Day, honoring the transformative work of Texas Music Project (TMP) and its ongoing mission to bring the power of music to children, families, and communities across the Lone Star State.

For over two decades, Texas Music Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has advanced music education and therapy initiatives that change lives through song. Through its flagship Music Heals Program, TMP provides instruments, support, and collaborative opportunities for music therapists who use rhythm, songwriting, and melody to help young patients cope, heal, and thrive.

“It’s incredible how something as simple as a song can bring so much hope, love, and healing—especially when you’re stuck in a hospital room,”
said Michael Clay, Executive Director of Texas Music Project.
“Music Heals Day is not just a celebration—it’s a reminder of how deeply music connects us and how powerful it can be in helping children find their strength.”

Healing Through Harmony

Music therapy is an evidence-based clinical practice that uses music to meet emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of patients. It reduces stress, promotes relaxation, encourages communication, and fosters emotional expression—especially in children facing medical challenges.

TMP is proud to collaborate with hospital partners who are leading the way in integrating music therapy into patient care, including:

  • Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth

  • Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston

  • Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital in Houston

  • Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin

  • Methodist Children’s Hospital and CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital in San Antonio

Together, these institutions and TMP are working to ensure that every note played becomes a step toward healing.

The Song of Hope Initiative

A cornerstone of the Music Heals Program is Song of Hope, a collaborative effort that brings together young patients, Grammy-winning musicians, and music therapists to create and record original songs based on patients’ personal stories. These songs capture the resilience and courage of children across Texas—turning hospital rooms into studios of hope.

“Music gave me a voice when I couldn’t find the words,” shared one young patient.
“During treatments, it helped me forget the pain for a moment—and remember who I am.”
